As this catalogue shows, TBI’s much-vaunted new software “Islands” is yet another “off the shelf” product, bought from Pearson. Pearson, the owner of “Islands”, “Cutting Edge”, Wall Street English and much else besides are an education leader and innovator. TBI has recently been subject to a lot of student complaints about their old computers and old-fashioned curriculum; all their larger competitors offered an online learning component. Their pathetic attempt at playing catch-up has been to buy an “off the shelf” program called “Islands” from Pearson. If you can walk into a bookstore/computer store/use Amazon, then you can be as “innovative” as TBI. Actually, we think the word they are looking for is imitative, but don’t tell them. You might ruin their ego trip.
